Crimson score 43 unanswered to topple Eagles

What a beautiful night it was last Friday as for the first time in 686 days we got to play in front of our Students and a packed Crimson Stadium.    Also, in a beautiful ceremony before the game, we honored Dave Malenke, truly one of the founding fathers for our Maple Grove Youth Football program, in front of a long line of youth football players that encapsulated what Dave's vision was from the get-go.  On top of that, we welcomed in our new scoreboard which was awesome!  Special thanks go out to Jill Hornbacher and the rest of the football boosters that poured all of their hearts into allowing us the opportunity to have something so great for our home fans and players.

For the first time this year, we took our home field against Totino Grace and walked off with a 56-18 victory.   After a short period where we made a few mistakes and Totino capitalized, we found ourselves only up three in the 2nd quarter, but in the next 14 minutes of game time, we strung together 35 consecutive points putting the game out of reach.

Offensively,  Derrick Jameson continued to find the end zone repeatedly as he found pay dirt three times in his 12 carries and accumulated 146 yards in the first three quarters.   Jacob Kilzer did a great job leading the offense and making big plays at quarterback as he efficiently was 9 - 11 passing for 139 yards and a TD.   He also had 62 yards rushing and a touchdown while having a 60 yard TD called back by penalty.   Others making a huge impact all night were the offensive line that allowed us to have nearly 9 yards per carry, and receiver Cole Newell who caught his first touchdown pass as Varsity player on a beautiful 40 yard post into the youth players!

Defensively, we did allow a couple plays, but I could not have been prouder of what they created for us as a team during that 35 point run that I mentioned earlier.   Jace Uzzell had a huge game on Friday night with 4 tackles for loss, a sack, and a blocked punt which stemmed the momentum for the rest of the game.   Kiers Brevik and Kristian Lodholz landed their first Varsity sacks in their careers and Sawyer Skanson led the team in tackles with 8 total tackles and 2 tackles for loss.

Again, our special teams are a major part of this team with Derrick Jameson scoring a touchdown on a punt return for the second consecutive week.   Also, Ben Jameson did an unreal job kicking off as he kicked 4 touchbacks and Connor Fournier did a great job putting 6 of 7 extra points through.   It's awesome to see a team that buys into this part of the game because they are making a huge impact and it's fun to watch!

Next week, we are back in the Grove playing one of the state's best in Minnetonka.  They have won their first two games handily this year and have a defense that has only allowed ten points in two games.     I cannot wait.  It will be an awesome game and we are excited for the challenge and getting a chance to compete against them on hopefully a beautiful night.   We need the place rockin' showing them what a true home field advantage truly is!   It's going to be a blast!   GO CRIMSON!
