Crimson set the tone in the 1st half against 'Tonka

On an absolutely beautiful night in The Grove, two top ten teams went at it as we took on the Minnetonka Skippers in our third game of the year.  A stalwart defense and an opportunistic offense got the ball rolling in the first half as we built a 35-7 lead that led to the final outcome of the game.   It was not a game of perfection as we had far too many penalties, but the spirit and enthusiasm of the boys was awesome from play one.

Defensively we set the tone all night supplying pressure on a young, talented quarterback creating great field position for our offense all night.   We held Minnetonka to under 100 yards of total offense on the night and it was led by an all-time performance by Senior Defensive End, Mason South.   Mason led our team with ten tackles, 8 of them for loss and 5 sacks.   It was truly a joy to watch because he took control of the game from his Defensive Line spot.  Aiden McMahon also had a great game with 7 total tackles and a great strip and recovery on a kickoff that led to a quick score in the first half.   This group did a great job creating momentum all night, and hopefully they will continue to improve week in and week out.

Offensively, we were up against a great defense that held their previous opponents to only ten points total in their first two games and we did great things in the first half.  We did a great job scoring on our opening drive and our drive right after 'Tonka's only score, and then took advantage of short fields for our other three scores.  Junior Jacob Kilzer keeps making a big impact at quarterback lengthening plays and making big plays to extend drives.   In the first half, he was part of all five touchdowns with three touchdowns rushing and two through the air.   Also, Sam Peters and Derrick Jameson were able to find the Endzone with touchdown receptions and our offensive line did a great job all night against a very active defense with good size and speed.   The good thing about this week is there is a ton of room for improvement, so hopefully we will keep growing throughout the weeks.

Next week we take on Centennial at their homecoming game and it will be a real test for our team.   They are a team that plays with great enthusiasm, is well-coached,  and competes every snap as they took the 3rd rated team in the state to the brink two weeks ago, and was up by 35 at half last week in their game against Totino.   It will be a blast and a game where we have to go to their place with a ton of our fans ready to rock, an attitude of joy on every snap, and a great week of preparation leading into a great environment.  It will be a great week of football and chance for us to get Step 4.   It's time to get after it Crimson!  Let's get the Cougars!
