On our final Friday night of the regular season, we went on the road to St. Michael-Albertville to take on a Knights team that had won 3 of their last 4 against strong opponents like Wayzata and Minnetonka. In a fast-moving game that finished before 8:45 PM, the Crimson prevailed 30-0 bumping their record to 7-0 heading into their final game of the regular season.
Defensively, we were able to get our fist shutout while holding them to less than 150 yards of total offense. Senior Jackson Powers had a big game with two first half interceptions and four solo tackles, while Senior linebacker Cayden Vokal led the team with 9 total tackles followed closely by Junior safety Henry Stang with 8 tackles. They did a great job all night getting off of the field and playing situational football allowing our offense a chance to succeed. This side of the ball will propel us as the playoffs progress and I cannot wait to see them perform in those situations.
Offensively, we were able to control the ball with two drives that were over 8 minutes in length, and a run offense that totaled over 290 yards of rushing yards. Senior Jacob Kilzer had a big day rushing with 224 yards on 22 carries and 3 TDs, while throwing for 66 more yards and keeping the chains moving. Jordan Olagbaju rushed for an additional 48 yards and did a great job blocking all night with our offensive line. It was fun to see this group play methodically controlling the flow of the game as they scored on all six possessions they had during the night.
Our special teams belonged to kicker Connor Fournier as he was 3 for 3 on both field goals and extra points. Connor punching those field goals through allowed our sustained drives to be worthwhile and kept the momentum as our defense entered their possession.. He will be a huge asset for us going into the second season.
Where has the time gone? This Wednesday we play our final game of the regular season against a very competitive Mounds View team that has been in every game they have played behind a strong Defense. It is Senior night which is bittersweet because it celebrates a group of Senior boys and parents that have meant a ton to this program. They have made an impact that will be talked about for years to come and, even though there is still things left to accomplish after this game, celebrating this group is something that is earned in every way. I personally want to thank all of you because you have meant so much to so many during this time. Now go out and there and play your best as you will then walk off that field after your final regular season. with absolute pride and remembrance. We need every student and fan there rocking the Grove on that final night because this Senior Class deserves a special night to celebrate all they have done for us! Let's go!!! We got one more regular season game to keep getting better and to go out there as a family and get after it! Go Crimson!!!
