Moorhead Recap

Last Friday was a long day, but it was absolutely worth it. We had the chance to face another top-10 opponent, the Moorhead Spuds. And I have to say—it’s pretty cool how they embrace their nickname. Walking through the school, you can see potatoes on nearly every classroom sign.

We’re incredibly thankful for the support of our teachers, administrators, support staff, and boosters who helped make this trip run so smoothly. Our team left just before noon for the 6:00 p.m. kickoff. The defensive bus managed to get through three movies during the six-hour trip, and we didn’t pull back into Maple Grove until just after midnight.

The game itself started a little late due to a skydiver pregame show, but that didn’t slow our offense down one bit. We were extremely efficient, scoring on 7 of our 9 possessions. As a team, we averaged 11 yards per rush, with James Engle finding the end zone five times on the ground. Our offensive line opened holes all night long, and our players executed the game plan at a high level. The JV unit got the entire fourth quarter and capped it off with a touchdown of their own.

Defensively, we continued to play outstanding football. While there are two drives we’d like back, Moorhead has some talented athletes who made plays. In the second half, however, our defense locked in and allowed just 7 total yards. Ryder Skanson came up with two interceptions, while Beaux Thyen led the team with 12 tackles. This group is learning to trust each other, flying to the football, and showing what it takes to dominate. Our next step is bringing that same energy and speed from the very start of the game.

Now, we turn the page to Homecoming week, which is always a special one for our program. We welcome a respected opponent in the St. Michael-Albertville Knights. It will also be our annual “Pink Out” game, supporting the Tackle Cancer initiative. We’re excited to see our community fill the stands, wear pink, be loud, and make Friday night one to remember.

GO CRIMSON!
