Friday night was another awesome night going into the biggest school in the state and dominating in front of their home crowd. Traveling down Maple Grove Parkway to go play at Wayzata is hopefully a trip that we get an opportunity to continue to make for years to come. I love the fact that we are in the west district since we play so many of these teams at the youth level. The west district is where we belong because of the relationships and familiarity with the LMAA.
Defensively, we started the game out and after a long drive, Beaux Thyen found a way to come up with a school record 9thinterception. Our offense then proceeded to move down the field at will and scored on a Kaden Harney to Henry Knutson connection. The defense proceeded to give up only 16 more yards in the first half and Beaux picked up yet another interception. Offensively we scored two more times in the first half, one a run by James Engle and a reception by Jeffrey Nordvold.
Coming out of halftime, our goal was to continue the dominance of the first half. Wayzata had different plans and they were able to score first. So for a moment, it was back to a two score game. Offensively, we needed one play to get back to the three score game which is our goal during every game. We always look to make it a three score game. The rest of the game provided two more scores for each team with James making an incredible catch from Kaden and Josh Thompson getting the edge on a jet run. Defensively, we had a couple plays that we would love back, but that’s where we’ll learn from them and get better as a result. We were able to walk out of Wayzata with a 42-21 comfortable win. This win also guaranteed us two home games in the playoffs which is everyone’s goal is to make the road to state go through Crimson Stadium.
Next week, will be an incredible matchup against another foe from the LMAA. It is an awesome test going into the playoffs and will have that type of feel. It will be senior night and will be exciting for the seniors and their families. So before MEA weekend hits, let’s make sure that we represent Maple Grove and come out and create an atmosphere that is unmatched. If the rankings remain where they should, this week will be a matchup between #1 and #2 on a short week and an unconventional week. Let’s enjoy this week and go dominate!
GO CRIMSON.
FEAR THE LEAF. LEAVE NO DOUBT. FIND A WAY.
