A homecoming victory take Crimson to 5-0

What a great and long week it was for our boys this week and we finished with a 24-7 victory over a hard-nosed and gritty Anoka team this Friday night.

Homecoming week is exhausting for the kids and a blast.  They have bonfires, dances in the pep fest, spirit days, and constant excitement throughout the week, so it's a week that always provides distractions for the kids and tests our mental resolve.  I thought they did a great job, and played well enough to win on Friday night in front of a packed house at 'The Grove'.

Defensively we did some good things.   Jake Engelken played like a man possessed as he collected 20 total tackles and 2 tackles for loss.  Junior cornerback Adam Brant had a great interception and 11 tackles from his secondary spot. Emmanuel Ehrich had seven more tackles and a sack, and Gunnar Ayres, Theo Frier, Blake Whitecotton, Isaac Collins, Sam Franta, Zach Corbin, Kyle Anderson, and Peder Olson all contributed greatly during the game.

Offensively, we showed we were able to score in a different light this week with three touchdown passes.  Sophomore Karl Altenberg was able to throw for 165 yards and three touchdown.  Tyler Coyne had 46 yards rushing and 48 yards receiving and a tightrope walking touchdown that gave us our first touchdown.   Brady Engelke had 78 yards receiving and two touchdowns, and Adam Brant, Will Ampe and Clark Wieneke all got in the receiving category.  Running the ball was an effort for us Friday night, but we persevered and still was able to rush for over 200 yards on the night with Clark Wieneke netting 174 yards on 25 carries behind an offensive line that anchors our team.

Also, our two kickers had a great night, with Tyler Knutson scoring the opening three points with a field goal, three solid extra points, and two touchbacks during the night.  Punter Jebah Doe did a nice job punting in windy conditions with over a 38 yard average on his punts and great hang time and placement.   Next week we face our biggest test of the year against a very good Centennial team.  Coach Diggins has done a great job over there and has his boys flying right now behind a wonderful running attack and a defense that is averaging giving up less than eight points per game. They have won four games in a row and all of them handily, so we will need to have a great week to come out on top!  Should be fun!  This is what playing Friday nights is about!...See you at Centennial next week for the excitement of a great high school game!
