What a scene as we opened the game watching our team get the honor of running through the tunnel comprised of all of the youth players wearing the Crimson and Gold in MGYFA.   Seeing the family together on a Friday night truly gets me every time and it truly makes me proud to be a Crimson because that's what it is all about!   It was a great way to kickoff our first game at home, and it set the tone for a wonderful evening in front of a packed house at 'The Grove'.  We played an inspired Armstrong squad that put us on our heels early in the game with a well-executed Option game plan and made us play our best to end up with a 47-13 win.

Our defense again was led by Chris Fondakowski, who continues his torrid start with 7 tackles, 2 Interceptions and a touchdown that started the momentum we built in the second quarter.  Also Christian Ujhelyi had a great game with 8 tackles and 2 tackles for loss and Carson Ayres had 9 tackles, a blocked punt and a long fumble return.   Captain Kyle Anderson had a huge sack along with 6 tackles, Grant Hemze had 8 tackles and Sam Franta was able to get 2 pass break ups during the game.   It was a game of highs and lows, but the defense still made a huge impact as they scored a touchdown, blocked a punt and caused a turnover that gave the offense field position inside the 30 going in.

Our special teams and return teams had a great game, as our kickoff team averaged nearly 40 yards a return and our punt return team averaged over 30 yards.  Clark Wieneke and Isaac Collins did a great job returning the ball, but the blocking and hustling on display around them truly was what sprung them for their great returns.  Also, our kicker Tyler Knutson did a great job kicking off with 4 touchbacks during the game.

Offensively, we did a much better job this week finishing drives and getting to the end zone following a week where we stalled during numerous opportunities in our opponent's red zone.  Brad Davison finished 4-6 for 40 yards and 2 touchdowns, and he did a great job leading the team throughout the game.  Also, Clark Wieneke was able to break 100 yards for the second consecutive week as he had 10 carries for 112 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Isaac Collins also continues his great rushing average with 8 carries for 85 yards, and Shaun Harrell came in late with 28 yards on 4 carries.   Fullback Sam Renner had a great game blocking and he hauled in 2 catches for 17 yards and a physical touchdown.  Also, Adam Brant continues his strong play at receiver with 2 catches for 23 yards and one touchdown and our offensive line did an unreal job paving our way for the backs.  All in all, I was proud of the effort the boys put forward and it feels great to be 2-0 going into a great week 3 opponent.

Next week, on Friday night, we will face Wayzata in a game that should be a blast with a wonderful atmosphere.  It will be fun to play a program that has reached the top of the mountain and is labeled with high expectations every year.   I hope to see everybody out there to take in the atmosphere that will make up this game, and suggest you get there early so you get to those seats with time to spare as you bring Crimson Pride into their stadium.  We hopefully will get a great week of preparation in and we keep getting better as we head down our journey that is the regular season.  On a field where I was blessed to have coached many a game and achieved some great successes, i cannot be prouder of the family that we bring into the stadium and I look forward to bleeding Crimson every step we take on the field. This weekend is about the kids and their vision,  and its a great chance to get a 3rd win and be able to compete against a program that is regarded as one of the best.   Looking forward to a great week and a great following as we take on another great opponent in week 3!  See you at Wayzata and Go Crimson!
