Park Center held off Maple Grove 10-7 in the final regular Twin Cities Suburban Conference West football game Wednesday, Oct. 15.

The Crimson, riding high from winning two of their last three games, took the lead 7-0 on a 2-yard touchdown run by senior fullback Kyle Olson in the first quarter. However, that was all the scoring they would get as Park Center scored a second-quarter touchdown and a third-quarter field goal to win it.

"I thought we were in control of the game after our nice drive in the first quarter," Crimson coach Craig Hansen said. "But give Park Center credit. They came back and played a lot tougher the rest of the game. They became very physical and showed good team quickness. They picked it up the rest of the game."

The Crimson had two chances to win the game. Quarterback C. J. Woodrow had a long pass to wide receiver Jeremy Oligmueller to give the Crimson a first and 10 inside the Park Center 20. But an offside penalty pushed them back and the had to try a field goal that failed because of a bad snap.

Later in the game, tight end Jason Amundson made a long catch-and-run that put the Crimson in scoring position. But that drive also was stymied by the fired-up Pirates defense.

"We had opportunities but didn't convert," Hansen said. "Park Center out-executed us and we didn't quite get it done."

The Crimson are seeded seventh in the Section 6 tournament. They opened against No. 2 Robbinsdale Armstrong Tuesday, Oct 22. The winner advances to play the winner of the Hopkins-Park Center game this Saturday, Oct. 25.

"All the teams have done real well," Hansen said. "Up until last week anyone of the Lake Conference teams could have been the No. 1 seed. We are the last seed but I think we have competed well. It's a competitive section and very evenly matched."
