Forest Lake forced five Maple Grove turnovers and cashed in for two touchdowns in a 14-0 Cities Suburban Conference football win last Friday.

The Crimson defense put up a fight but the Rangers scored their first touchdown one play after intercepting a pass at midfield in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Rangers recovered a fumble on the Maple Grove eight and scored on a three-yard touchdown run. That was all the scoring as the Crimson defense held firm while the Ranger defense kept the Crimson out of the end zone.

“Our defense did real well," Maple Grove coach Craig Hansen said. "We had five turnovers and they scored off only two of them. They continued to improve and shut them down."

Junior linebacker Andy Greder led the defense with 11 tackles, sophomore linebacker Travis Iskierka had nine tackles, and senior defensive end Justin Davis and Reed Trafton each had eight tackles.

Offensively, Maple Grove had good field positions throughout the game because of the fine punting of Mike Behr. However, the Crimson hurt themselves with five turn-overs and several penalties.

"They have an awfully good defense with six returning starters, but we were in four-down territory twice, but untimely penalties and missed assignments took us out of scoring range," Hansen said. "We threatened but we need to finish."

Senior quarterback Mike Klosterman completed 10 of 23 passes for 111 yards. Senior receiver Jake Johnson caught four passes for 49 yards, and senior wide receiver Brent Lawson had four for 47.

The Crimson next host Hill-Murray for Homecoming on Friday, Oct. 1, in a 5 p.m. game.

"Physically we were fine we compete well but we have to eliminate mental errors and mistakes," Hansen said. "We just have to continue working to gain experience and get through that stuff."
