An all-around dominating performance had Maple Grove advancing easily in the first round of the Class 6A football playoffs Friday, Oct. 10

Isaac Collins rushed for two touchdowns and Ryan Hanscome for one in the Crimson’s 28-6 win over East view. Collins scored on runs of 28 and 19 yards. Hanscome started the scoring with a 12-yard TD. They also helped the Crimson control the ball with 251 yards rushing.

Added to that, Maple Grove’s defense dominated the Lightning. Ben Paschke, Ryan Shea and Leroy Kwateh all recovered forced fumbles. Tony Joksimovic took up residence in the Eastview backfield with three sacks. Shea and Zion Allen also had sacks.

Special teams also shined in the Crimson’s victory. Kwateh blocked a punt, and Collins had a 57-yard kick return.

Shea had a stellar game in place of Grant Hemze with a team-high 10 tackles. Joksimovic had nine, and Kwateh had seven. They helped Maple Grove keep the shutout going until the final five minutes of the game when Eastview scored on a 40-yard run.

Brad Davison led the Crimson offense at quarterback with a 10-yard TD pass to Eddie Lee and no interceptions. Davison threw for 40 yards on 4-12 passing.

He didn’t need to sling the ball all over the field with another strong running game by the Crimson, led by Collins’ 126 yards on 13 carries. Hanscome finish a yard shy of 100 on 14 rushes. Lee had 18 yards rushing and 23 yards receiving.

Maple Grove will host Armstrong in the second round of the playoffs on Friday at 7 p.m. The Crimson have dominated recent meetings, but the Falcons come in with the program’s best record since 2004 and a convincing 43-27 win over Woodbury last week.
