Brad Davison threw three touchdowns and ran for one in a dominating performance by Maple Grove.

Davison and company started strong and never looked back in a 45-14 route at Minnetonka Friday, Oct. 6. The Crimson senior quarterback got his team going with a 67-yard TD pass to senior wide receiver Jack Dugan in the game’s second play.

“We came out really well,” Crimson coach Matt Lombardi said. “For the second-straight week, we played really well in the first half.”

Maple Grove never slowed down after that first TD with 264 yards of offense in a big half. That included a 42-yard TD pass by Davison to senior receiver Teddy Raasch. Davison also ran for a 25-yard TD.

“I have four really, really talented weapons at receiver,” Davison said.

Raasch caught four passes for 84 yards and a TD. Dugan garnered 90 yards on three catches and a score. Ryan Hanscome also caught a 56-yard TD pass from Davison.

“Brad’s obviously putting up really good numbers, but I’ve been proud of how we’ve spread the ball around,” Lombardi said. “We’ve got about five kids who are making a major impact with the ball in their hands, and Brad’s doing a good job of getting it to them.”

Hanscome had a quieter running game with nine yards on six carries but scored one TD. Evan Hull led the running backs with 47 yards in eight attempts. Nate Adams also chipped in with a 9-yard TD run.

Davison finished with 9-15 passing, 233 yards and three TDs. He ran for 86 yards on 12 carries and a TD. His continued success could make him a contender for Mr. Football, which Lombardi hopes to see.

“He’s worked really hard,” Lombardi said of Davison. “If you look at our conference with Eden Prairie, Tonka and all those schools that we’re playing, I think he’s the leading rusher and the leading passer. That’s a pretty good resume.”

Maple Grove’s defense hurt any Minnetonka star offensive players’ Mr. Football chances in a dominating performance. The Crimson allowed one first-half TD and didn’t surrender a score again until the 3:37 mark in the fourth quarter with the game well out of hand.

Jake Hanson led the Crimson in tackles with 14, and he forced a fumble. Ben Paschke tallied 10 tackles for second on the team.

Tony Jokismovic, Adam Skogman and Matt Slough each sacked the Skippers’ quarterback once. Zion Allen and Gabe Hanson posted eight tackles apiece, and Curtis Haugen added seven.

Maple Grove won its second-straight in convincing fashion after back-to-back losses against Eden Prairie and Edina. In the losses, the Crimson didn’t get much done in the first half as they did in the recent victories.

“That was our problem for the first four weeks,” Lombardi said. “We’re preparing better and we’re taking the field a little bit more confident.”

The Crimson (4-2) can extend the streak to three games with Prior Lake at home on Friday at 7 p.m. Last season, the Maple Grove went into Prior Lake and won 42-21. Lombardi expects another tough game from the Lakers (3-3) this year.

“They won three of their last four,” Lombardi said. “They very similar to us in a way. We both started a little bit slow, but now we’re playing pretty well. They always play, fast hard defense.”
